**NOTE: Before recreating on Fort Cavazos, carefully read the Fort Cavazos guide and regulations above.**
Pigs can be hunted year-round. From October through January they may be specifically hunted by checking in through the Pig Hunting activity option. During the remainder of the year, pigs may be harvested utilizing the Small Game/Non-game Hunting activity option.
Pigs may be legally harvested when checked-in through ANY of the Hunting options. For example, a hunter may harvest pigs while hunting deer when checked in with the Deer Hunting option. Those hunting turkeys with the Turkey Hunting option may also harvest pigs. However, hunters are limited to the authorized means and methods for the option they are checked in under as outlined in FH Cir 210-22, FH Reg 210-25, and the Annual Hunting, Fishing, and Natural Resource Use Guide.
When using the Small Game/Non-Game option: Shotgun not larger than 10- gauge with BB-size shot or smaller; smooth bore (shot) muzzleloaders with BB-size shot or smaller: legal archery equipment.
When using the Pig Hunting option: Shotgun using slug load or buckshot; muzzleloader; legal archery equipment. Buckshot may be used/possessed from opening day of the Fall Season through 31 January ONLY. (Buckshot may not be possessed or used with any other check-in options.)
There are no bag limits for pig hunting. You are encouraged to harvest as many pigs as possible as these are a nuisance species.
NOTE: All harvested pigs must be brought to the check station (Building 1944) for data collection. During the Fall Season, check station hours are 0800-2030. Normal business hours during the remainder of the year are 0800-1600. Pigs brought to the check station after hours must use the available kiosk in front of the building to report the harvest. Instructions for using the kiosk are posted on site. (Harvest reporting is a critical tool for monitoring the population on the installation and making management decisions.)
Hunters are allowed to recreate with companions. During the check-in process, a hunter may add Participants or a Guest (Guest Observer). Hunters are prohibited from adding more than one (1) Guest (Guest Observer).
NOTE: All Guest (Guest Observers) nine years old and older must have an iSportsman account and a valid Fort Cavazos permit.
Individual hunters may not have multiple weapons in their possession/vehicle while hunting to include interchangeable barrels. No firearms are authorized at all while archery hunting. Pistols are not authorized on Fort Cavazos.
